Jan Bierhoff

After his sociology and communication science studies, Bierhoff worked over a decade as a freelance journalist for Dutch national broadcasters and magazines. He also taught media theories at the Utrecht School of Journalism. Bierhoff was one of the founders of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) and became the first director of the European Journalism Centre (EJC) in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He wrote several books on media effects and communication structures.

In the mid-nineties, together with academic colleagues, Bierhoff set up the International Infonomics Institute, focusing on the societal impact of the unfolding internet. This period of reflection and fundamental research led to the creation and management of the European Centre for Digital Communication (EC/DC), an applied research institute.contact
